"With bats on our side" at The Animal Gaze Constructed

Thanks to a last-minute invitation by conference organiser Rosemarie McGoldrick, I performed my piece "With bats on our side" at The Animal Gaze Constructed conference and exhibition at London Metropolitan University on 6 March 2020. The piece had been commissioned for, and first presented at, the bat-themed event Fly-by-Night at Hundred Years Gallery in December 2019. It reflects upon a disturbing, bizarrely fascinating historical footnote to World War II: the U.S. military's experiments with Mexican free-tailed bats as a method of bomb dispersal. Structured as a call-and-response between myself and primary material, the text warns of the dangers that curiosity can bring.
